NASA Johnson Space Center has been leading innovation in space and on Earth for over 50 years. In its first half century, NASA put the first humans footprints on the moon, conducted 135 Space Shuttle missions, and constructed the most ambitious engineering project ever attempted - the International Space Station (ISS) - an orbiting laboratory that has been continuously inhabited for over 15 years.
NASA is now embarking on the next steps in our journey - and the coming half century will be even more incredible than the first! We are utilizing the ISS to develop the technologies for deep space exploration. We are building the next generation of human spacecraft that will, in the next decade, conduct demonstration missions in the vicinity of the moon leading to long-range missions to Mars and beyond. Come join us on this fantastic voyage of discovery and innovation!

I want to welcome you to our first Cross Industry Innovation Summit. The summit will bring together a select number of top innovation executives from the world leading institutions to discuss innovation across various industries.
Most industries work at the leading edge of technological standards, and are constantly on the lookout for new technologies to make operations simpler, innovative, safer, and more cost effective. A significant problem in several industries is that engineers and scientists are typically exposed only to like thinking individuals. It is that mindset that can prevent innovation and maturation of the “out of the box” ideas.
Finding innovative solutions for challenges often requires venturing off looking for diverse ways of thinking to bring new value added. This event will take us further in an endeavor to connect and discuss common challenges, benchmark innovations, discuss analogies along various industry lines, and then provide a platform for participants to explore solutions and identify new strategies through future technology collaboration.
Looking forward to your participation.

Immerse yourself in the beliefs and practices that reinforce Silicon Valley’s thriving innovation culture. The session focuses on how organizations can create a future-forward environment that encourages innovation and meet the challenges of disruptive transformation at exceptional speed. Learn how to transform your organization's culture into one that continuously sparks new ideas and give people the skills and mindset to confidently experiment forward to make those ideas a reality.
Ing. Ramon Vullings. Cross-Industry Expert, Speaker & IdeaDJ
Don't think outside the box, think outside your industry. Ramon will provide an interactive keynote infused with tools & insights for learning from other sectors. www.RamonVullings.com
An increased number of industries are under extraordinary pressure to innovate in order to purposefully create and provide
improvement. Simply waiting for innovation to happen is perilous, especially in today's climate. Playing it safe is no longer
playing it smart. The goal of this panel is to discuss the innovation techniques that are employed by some of the most innovative
companies and how to best harvest the best ideas in different organization.
John Hurter. President & CEO Energy Markets Access
Shawn Murphy. Independent Energy and Technology Innovation Consultant at Serapis Consulting
Large organizations must adapt to survive. They have the choice to allow themselves to be disrupted from the outside or to disrupt themselves from within. The former is reactive and will usually result in the organization withering away over time; the latter is executed with strategy and purpose so the organization can flourish. This talk will discuss how to create an internally disruptive organization that overcomes institutional resistance and biases to help the organization adapt and thrive.
The Research University in the New Millennium
Dr. Christine Ortiz. Dean for Graduate Education at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
For the last two hundred years, research univeristies have been engines driving human progress and have paved a pathway of opportunity for individual students, citizens, nations and humanity as a whole. Advances in the learning sciences, digital technologies and global collaboration provide an unprecedented and historic opportunity to re-envision the research university in the new millennium. This session will focus on key trends impacting the research university, examples of alternative prototype curricular models and a new design intended to advance intellectual and creative freedom and to accelerate learning, discovery, creation and invention well beyond existing frontiers.
More revolutionary innovation? Drastically innovate how you innovate!
Dr. Henk Mooiweer. Innovenate LLC. Adjunct Professor Invention & Innovation at Rice University. Ex-Shell Gamechanger
To strongly enhance the value you obtain from your innovation process, you must innovate your innovation and radically improve the way innovation resolves your challenges and delivers new opportunities. It is time to apply what you know about innovation to your own innovation process.
Steve Barsh. Chief Innovation Officer at Dreamit
During this fast-paced talk you'll learn highly pragmatic techniques you can easily bring back to your organization so your teams are highly focused on the most critical assumptions and working in an extremely focused and efficient manner.
Several industries aspire to be innovative, and they typically copy the innovative practices of other industry leaders.
Nevertheless, these companies seldom achieve the same success. These companies implement the copied processes and tools
on to existing infrastructure without first addressing what’s keeping them from being innovative. However, given proper
frameworks, along with a change in approach and mindset, industries can achieve the type of innovation breakthroughs they
desire and need for continuous success.
Dr. Ogan Gurel. Innovation thought leader & Author
Dr. Yuji Sano. Program Manager at ImPACT Program
ImPACT is a 500 million dollars program from 2014-2018 through which the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation in Japan, the body that serves as the government's command center for innovation policy will encourage high-risk, high-impact R&D, and aim to realize a sustainable and expandable innovation system.
Dave Snowden. Chief Scientific Officer at Cognitive Edge
In the 1940’s a Raytheon Engineer maintaining the magneto of a radar machine noticed that a candy melted in his pocket, from that small noticing we got microwave ovens. Radical, non linear repurposing of traits evolved for one function is key to understanding evolution. How do we manage to allow people to see connections between apparently unconnected things?
Drawing on complex adaptive systems theory, the cognitive sciences and the emerging field of distributed ethnography this presentation will focus on the theory and practice of managing for beneficial accidents and (as critically) how to gain investor attention for apparently wild ideas.
Discuss how several key technologies and innovations came from different industries across the line.
Andrea Mills. Chief Innovation Officer at ST Health Ventures

Lauren Van Heerden. Chief Innovation Officer at Brookstone
It takes corporations too long to launch product. Over the past 8 years, there has been a quiet shift within product development -- Makers don't need to ask for money anymore from conventional channels. They go directly to potential customers to launch product. Learn about how the ecosystem has changed to support startups and how Brookstone has leveraged this and become a first mover for innovation through Brookstone Launch.
Stephen Day. CEO Day Capital Partners
The power of innovation to create economic value and reward pioneers with exceptional profits is a deeply held
belief. Innovation can enrich companies and may even disrupt entire industries. Behind every success story are
failed efforts, a setback or a radical change of direction. The goal of this panel will be to discuss success
stories that resulted from innovation at various industries.

Dr. Kumar Krishen. Lead Technologist NASA JSC
Steve Rader. Deputy Manager, Center of Excellence for Collaborative Innovation (CoECI) NASA JSC
NASA has recently put in place a number of contracts with companies that provide crowd-sourced challenges as a means to solve difficult problems and access hard to find expertise. NASA has been successfully using these tools on a number of projects around the agency and now has made the tools available to any/all projects at NASA. This presentation will provide information about several tools that are available for NASA projects along with some compelling reasons that these tools are a must for the future of space exploration.
An interactive exercise providing individuals with the mindset and the “way of being” that supports and fosters innovation. This training will highlight different styles of innovation and strategies for how to create an environment and culture that encourages innovation within your team.
